Shi Qingshan looked at the cold moonlight outside her window, anger and hatred pressing deeply on her heart.
Right now, her birth mother was still trapped in the Dakong Temple. Her grandfather was still rather healthy, so the madam wouldn’t do anything against her yet.
But with her current power, even if she could get Jiu Liu out, staying in the temple was safer on the contrary.
If there was anyone in the Prime Minister’s residence she was worried about, it would be her biological brother, Shi Qinghan.
“Wen Cha, tell Duan Xian to bring Qinghan over.” Shi Qingshan ordered.
“Yes.”
In her previous life, she was told that her little brother Shi Qinghan was poisoned dumb. He was as confused and silly as Third Aunt’s Shi Jinghua, truly stupid.
No! Shi Qingshan’s eyes widened in fear.
San Moxiang was a servant girl brought over as part of the madam’s dowry. How could the madam let her give birth to the Prime Minister’s eldest son?
Unless… unless this so-called ‘eldest son’ was good-for-nothing!
Therefore, Shi Jinghua’s stupidity was probably caused by the madam’s masterplan!
Shi Qingshan slightly narrowed her eyes. The madam was not some kind person. There must be someone somewhere that knew her black heart!
“Fifth Young Miss, Second Young Master is here.”
Duan Xian’s voice was cold just like her person. She never seemed to show emotions.
Shi Qinghan was born with good features. He was only 13, yet he was almost as tall as Shi Qingshan.
His skin was white and tender, bright eyes differentiating clearly between black and white, giving others a feeling of wanting to get closer.
However, he was very timid. He looked at Shi Qingshan a few times and rather than energetically greeting her like other children, he sunk into deep silence.
At this moment, Shi Qingshan’s eyes were moist as she walked over and hugged her little brother. In an almost inaudible voice, she said, “Qinghan, I’m sorry…”
Sorry for what?
She wanted to apologize for not being strong enough, allowing others to poison him and mother. It’s all Sister’s fault…
Shi Qinghan didn’t say a word. He quietly reached out a hand and wiped away her tears.
Shi Qingshan held Shi Qinghan’s hand and asked, “Qinghan, are you doing well?”
Shi Qinghan lightly frowned, feeling confused. Didn’t they just meet the day before yesterday? But he still used his hand to write, ‘I’m doing well.’
“Qinghan, don’t be afraid. Sister’s here by your side, you don’t have to be afraid of anything! Sister will protect you…” Shi Qingshan encouragingly said, but her heart panged in pain.
Shi Qinghan silently nodded.
Seeing her brother’s sign language, Shi Qingshan’s heart only felt grieved.
She thought, ‘Since they used poison, then there must be a cure somewhere!’ She will definitely cure her brother!
The sky slowly lit. It was only dawn, yet Shi Qingshan’s door was banged on harshly, waking her up.
Hearing the sound, Wen Cha also ran out of the room and whispered to the people outside, “Hua Zhu, please wait a minute. Fifth Young Miss hasn’t awoken yet…”
Hua Zhu deliberately raised her voice, “What time is it now? Fifth Young Miss sure loves to sleep! Doesn’t she know that our Fourth Young Miss had long woken up to pray?”
During their short conversation, their voices grew louder and louder. Shi Qingshan opened the door and lightly smiled, “Wen Cha, it’s fine, why don’t you go back to sleep?”
She then looked towards Hua Zhu, “Hua Zhu, sending you here to find me, is there something Fourth Sister needs?”
Hua Zhu was Shi Jingxuan’s maid. Like her master, she didn’t put Shi Qingshan in her eyes at all.
Her head was angled so that you could see up her nostrils, “Fifth Young Miss, Fourth Young Miss has sustained injuries and cannot copy the scriptures hence troubling you to write it within these few days. I shall come by and pick it up after you are done.”
With that said, Hua Zhu threw the thick stack of papers in her hand at Shi Qingshan who almost dropped them all.
Hua Zhu didn’t forget to add in a line, “Fifth Young Miss, in a few days, the old madam wants to invite some wives around to recite the scriptures so this job is very important! Don’t mess it up now!”
Shi Qingshan looked at the stack of papers in her hands as a smile slowly surface on her face.
She lifted her head, “Fourth Sister is injured, yet this little sister can’t do much. If I can help a little, then I’ll help. Come pick it up tomorrow evening then.”
Seeing Shi Qingshan agree nonchalantly, Hua Zhu felt that the Fourth Young Miss’ caution against her was unnecessary.
This Fifth Young Miss was still useless and easy to bully. Just what was there to fear?
Wen Cha walked in after Hua Zhu left.
She looked at the stack of papers and dissatisfiedly said, “Fifth Young Miss, it was obviously Fourth Young Miss that was punished for doing something wrong, on what basis is she forcing it onto you for? Maybe we should report this to the old master?”
Shi Qingshan’s eyes were clear, “Carrying these blank papers to complain would only make Father irritated. Everything needs solid evidence. Things as they are now cannot be considered proof.”
Saying this, her lips lifted up into a faint smile.
During the next two days, Shi Qingshan really didn’t go out. She quietly stayed inside to copy the scriptures.
Wen Cha constantly complained, “Fifth Young Miss, the Fourth Young Miss is obviously bullying people!”
Shi Qingshan finished the last brush stroke and set it down, breathing a sigh of relief. “Good fortune is built up. Clean up quickly, they’re coming to pick it up soon.”
“Miss is too kind…” Wen Cha grumbled.
After Hua Zhu arrived, she opened it and checked it.
Even though she was illiterate, seeing that Shi Qingshan’s words were neat and proper, she ungratefully said, “This servant thanks Fifth Young Miss on behalf of Fourth Young Miss.”
Looking at Hua Zhu’s departing figure, Shi Qingshan’s mouth hooked up in a smile, causing Wen Cha to find it strange.
On the fifth of every month, the old madam would invite famous wives from the various rich households to recite and exchange thoughts on the Buddhist scriptures.
On the fifth of October, the old madam’s courtyard was very lively. Shi Qingshan sat in her own dilapidated yard to sunbathe as she watched Duan Xian sweep the floor.
Duan Xian stopped and questioned, “Fifth Young Miss, you wore your best dress today…”
Shi Qingshan raised an eyebrow and smiled, “You have a good eye for detail…”
Just when she wanted to ask why, Hu Momo from the Suxin Courtyard walked in.
Hu Momo was one of the trusted aides of the old madam. She curtsied, “Fifth Young Miss, the old madam invites you to the Suxin Courtyard.”
Shi Qingshan returned courtesy with courtesy, “Yes, I will head to Suxin Courtyard straight away.”
Watching Shi Qingshan leave, Duan Xian reacted only now. Did Fifth Young Miss know that the old madam would look for her long ago?
The Suxin Courtyard was fragrant, the beat with the wooden mallet steady and rhythmic. However, she did not hear the voice of the monk reading the sermon.
The old wives weren’t in the temple, but rather in the guest receiving hall.
Shi Qingshan acted submissive as she followed the momo into the hall.
The moment she walked in, she heard Shi Jingxuan gnash her teeth and angrily say, “Grandmother, it’s her! She deliberately copied the wrong scriptures! She wants to harm me!”
Everyone’s eyes were focused on the enraged Shi Jingxuan. Shi Chenghuan merely spared her a glance, hating that the iron didn’t turn into steel.
The one seated at the highest seat was the old madam. She was around sixty years old, her gray hair pinned neatly with an elegant hairpin. Her face revealed her inner nobility.
The old madam coldly looked towards Shi Jingxuan and snorted, “Shut up! What a fool you’re making of yourself!”
Shi Qingshan then respectfully walked forwards and bowed, “This granddaughter greets Grandmother.”
She then greeted the other elders in the room, “Greetings to the respectable wives.”
Even though Shi Qingshan was thin and frail and didn’t have Shi Jingxuan’s good looks, she had the courtesy of a young lady from the Prime Minister’s residence. There was naturally a bias in everyone’s hearts.
With Shi Jingxuan’s rude remarks earlier as a comparison, the old madam felt that Shi Qingshan was more pleasing to the eye than usual.
“Qingshan, Jingxuan said that these scriptures were copied by you?” the old madam asked.
